Gaming

The firm has an extensive gaming practice, representing Indian nations in the process of developing their gaming & casino operations both before and after passage of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act in 1988. We have drafted gaming control ordinances and gaming board regulation for Indian tribal clients and negotiated tribal/state compacts in New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and California as well as serving as advisors for gaming tribes in Texas and Minnesota.

The firm's expertise in gaming includes:

  • Negotiation of management contracts
  • Termination of management agreements
  • Establishing new gaming enterprises
  • Planning, structuring & financing new business entities
  • Establishing sound business practices

In addition, the firm has worked extensively with the National Indian Gaming Commission to secure compact approvals.

Nordhaus Law Firm, LLP has also represented Indian clients in important gaming litigation, including the long-running dispute over Indian gaming and revenue sharing in New Mexico. The ultimate result of this litigation was a new compact for clients that reduced the revenue sharing rate by half. The firm has also been successful in litigation in federal, state and tribal court related to the termination of gaming business relationships.
